In the 1960s and 1970s, there was a popular saying in Taiwan: "Come, come, come to NTU; go, go, go to the United States". Several of my parents are typical representatives. After studying abroad, they took root there, and they gradually drifted away and lost their books. There are many Asian movies in Hollywood, but there are very few stories with the so-called "Taiwanese immigrants" as the background. But Netflix's film "Tigertail" , launched in April 2020 , is not about Taiwanese students who immigrated to the United States. It is a retrospect of a Taiwanese worker from Asia to America, from youth to old age. In just 90 minutes, the audience was led through the protagonist's carefree childhood, passionate youth, middle-aged life, until he was alone after the divorce. (The following contains some spoilers for the movie) The male protagonist Pin Rui (played by Ma Tai) is a man who, after being squeezed by life for many years, has no enthusiasm and closed himself. When he was young, he (played by Li Hongqi) worked in a factory with his mother (played by Yang Guimei). For the sake of his American dream, he resolutely gave up his beloved girlfriend Ayuan (played by Fang Youxin), and brought his daughter Zhen, the director Pricing of the factory, who was willing to support his travel expenses. Really go to New York to work hard. But he never thought that his heart was also running around day and night, slowly dying. And the victim is not only himself, but also his family. He and his wife had nothing in common. When the children grew up, his wife took the initiative to ask to break up with him. He and his daughter Angela (played by Ge Xiaojie) have never communicated well, and the two interact awkwardly like strangers. Pin Rui promised to take his mother to the United States once he got a firm foothold, but his mother refused to move to the United States, so mother and son were separated for most of their lives. At the beginning of the film, Pin Rui has just returned from Taiwan to attend her mother's funeral. On the screen, Pin Rui after the divorce is so lonely: eating alone, drinking tea alone, pruning flowers and trees alone; even when eating with her daughter, facing her depressed daughter, she could not say a word of comfort.
